Organisation notification defaults

Organisation notification defaults set the baseline for how Campsite notifies people. Personal settings, channel subscriptions, and Do Not Disturb all sit on top. If you only change one layer, support tickets about "missing alerts" will continue.

The four layers

  1. Organisation defaults - Admin → Notifications (/admin/notifications)
  2. Personal category toggles - Settings → Notifications
  3. Broadcast channel subscriptions - mandatory vs optional channels
  4. Do Not Disturb - quiet hours that pause push only

What admins configure

  • Broadcast delivery defaults (in-app, email, push combinations)
  • Domain reminders (onboarding, interview feedback, rota)
  • Recruitment alert behaviour

Document your intended standard in an internal admin note so the next Super Admin does not undo it casually.

  • Same-day rota cover: in-app + push
  • Policy updates: email + in-app
  • Low-priority FYI: optional channels so people can unsubscribe
  • Security/re-auth prompts: do not weaken product security for convenience

Change process that avoids outages

  1. Record current settings.
  2. Change one domain at a time.
  3. Send a test broadcast to a small optional channel.
  4. Verify web bell, email, and a real phone.
  5. Ask one manager and one weekly paid staff member what arrived.
  6. Then roll out to production channels.
  7. Tell managers whether phone trees are still required for same-day absence.

Badges and the illusion of silence

Disabling email does not clear in-app badges. DND can look like broken push. Optional unsubscribe is not an outage. Organisation billing limited/suspended states can also change behaviour globally.
